Biography

Michael Dobinson is a final-year PhD Candidate in the Department of Physics at Simon Fraser University, supervised by Dr. Stephanie Simmons. His research focuses on the intersection of silicon nanophotonics and microelectronics for quantum technologies. During his PhD he has gained experience designing and testing hybrid optoelectronic devices for controlling single T centres, a silicon colour centre. Broadly he is interested in cryogenic microelectronics, nanophotonics, solid-state physics, and applied quantum computing.

In 2018 he completed his BEng in Electrical Engineering at the University of Victoria before working in the marine industry, designing electronic ship steering systems. He obtained a MASc in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2022 with research on nanoaperture optical trapping of quantum light source candidates, working in the Nanoplasmonics Research Group supervised by Dr. Reuven Gordon.
